Fabrics - Artisan Collection

Artisan
Pattern by Hand

Rooted in the Japanese tradition of Shibori, the Artisan Collection is defined by process as much as design. Each pattern begins with fabric folded, bound, twisted or compressed entirely by hand, before being immersed in an indigo dye bath. The outcome is never fully controlled, with the final motifs only revealed as the cloth is opened, creating distinctive, expressive geometric forms full of movement and depth.

Inspired by Shibori

Vanessa's Artisan Collection of simple geometric printed fabrics and wall coverings is inspired by the 8th century Japanese art of Shibori. The original designs were created by folding, shaping and compressing fabrics by hand and then immersing them in a traditional indigo vat. Since you can never totally control the process the results are always unique and the designs only revealed when the fabric is unwrapped.... this is the true joy of Shibori.

Artisan's striking motifs involve bold colours and multi-directional, all-over prints with colours linking into other existing designs, such as the pigeon and saffron.
