Paisley is a vegetal motif, often shaped like a droplet or kidney bean. The origins of the curved teardrop form, come from the area between India and Iran, (known there as 'buta and boteh' respectively); however, the word "paisley"refers to the town of Paisley in Scotland.

The transfer from Persian and Kashmiri cultures to become a popular motif in woven textile manufacturing in Britain came after the East India Company imported large amounts of shawls and other goods with the motif in the 18th century. The weavers of the town of Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland, became the foremost producers of paisley shawls.

What can I use your paisley upholstery fabric for?

Upholstered chairs, footstools, and sofas, made in paisley cotton fabrics look fantastic. As part of our Made to Measure service, we can make for you paisley-covered bed quilts, fabric-upholstered cushions, and footstools.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing soft furnishings, or just in situ to where the fabric will go, and see how it looks.

We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
