Find out more about our striped curtain fabric
Striped curtains are back in a big way. While it's hard to remember a time when we didn't love striped curtain material, the bold linear pattern is making a return. Thick or thin, vertical, or horizontal, in living colour or in black and white, stripes are like a magnet for the eyes, becoming an instant focal point.
Striped material for curtains and blinds is particularly stunning. Stripes on fabrics are completely timeless and unlike bolder patterned fabrics you will never tire of them. Queen Victoria made them popular, after dressing her son Bertie in a striped sailor suit and this started the connection of stripes with words such as “marine” and “sea”. While the blue and white striped fabric combo may take us back to summer days at the seaside, the thin black and white striped fabric has a way of transporting us to the cityscape. Whether you use them in your home in a traditional way or in a totally modern and contemporary setting, decorating with stripes is a great way to bring some order to your room.
They have the power to reshape an interior depending on how they're used; they add a crisp, polished feel to a space. Best of all, striped fabrics are a very good coordinate and mix well with plains, florals, and other patterns. Striped soft furnishing fabrics can be elegant and make the perfect choice for luxury designer curtains when they're tone-on-tone, wild when they're bright and bold, and also classic when the stripes are the same width. Our popular vertical striped fabrics include Stockholm Stripe, French Ticking, Lapland Stripe, Stripe and Dash, Scandi Stripe, and Simple Ticking Detail.
How to incorporate stripy designs around the house
Striped curtains and blinds have a very Scandinavian, casual, and nautical look. Upholstery with stripes is particularly timeless and can be used anywhere in the house. But don't simply stop at fabric. Other ways that stripes can be helpful include striped rugs, which can add more colour and, if necessary, help to lengthen small spaces. Or, consider striped wallpaper to help 'heighten' the ceilings.
You can use stripes as a beautiful trim on the leading edges of curtains, borders on blinds, and also for contrast piping for furniture and cushions to add that point of difference.

What colours do your striped curtain fabrics come in?
Our stripes come in all different colours. Vanessa mixes Teal blue with Tomato red, Damson pink with Scree grey, and many, many more.
We also have a range of stripes in the Scandinavian Woven Collection, which is woven on hand looms in a beautiful mid-weight Linen. These make fresh and pretty curtains and can be unlined if you just want to filter out the light. One design is double-sided, Lapland Stripe, which is perfect for unlined curtains.
What other patterns complement and contrast with your striped fabric?
Striped fabrics look great contrasted with the spots of Pretty Maids. Also, each stripe is designed to coordinate with the other prints in the collections to which they belong. For instance my Cow Parsley with Stripe and Dash, and French Ticking with Flora and Fauna.
Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can pin it to your present curtains and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen and Linen Union making them suitable for curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days, with an overnight service available by phone call request. The same team who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
